On the surface, whether you dye your hair hair or not just isn’t that important. After all, what does it matter if you decide to go grey gracefully or dye your hair blond (or any other color for that matter?) But, for many women over 60, the decision to go grey is surprisingly important.
Maybe we feel that this is one aspect of our appearance that we have almost complete control over. After all, there’s no hiding our wrinkles or drooping eyes, but, we can still choose our hair color. Or, perhaps, we simply established the habit of dyeing our hair in our 40s and 50s and we haven’t quite reached the point that we can let go. Regardless of the reasons, our decision to dye (or not dye) our hair says a lot about how we view the aging process.
Is it Time to Consider Going Grey?
When we were in our 40s and 50s, many of us started to dye our hair for practical reasons. In a world where “going grey” was synonymous with “getting old,” we felt that we needed to dye our hair to be taken seriously in our careers and communities. Now, as we reach our 60s, we are once again faced with a choice – to grey or not to grey.
The good news is that there are signs that perceptions about grey hair are changing. More women than ever are choosing to see their grey hair as a sign of confidence and strength. These ladies are sending a message to the world that they want to be judged on what they do with their lives, not what they do to their hair.
Going grey is not a sign of weakness. It can be a powerful form of self-expression.
In the past, when I have asked the women in our community whether they are choosing to go grey, I have received strong responses. It feels like we are fairly evenly split between women who have decided to go grey and women who are still dyeing their hair (like me.) So, I’m really interested what you have to say about this. Please take a few minutes to answer the questions below.
Do you think that grey hair can be beautiful and sexy? Are you going grey gracefully or do you prefer to dye your hair? Why did you make this decision? Please join the conversation below and “like” and share this video if you enjoyed it!
