Assess The Damage

Before you can clean, you have to have a plan of attack. I stand in front of the closet, peek inside, and decide where I want to start. The place that seems to always stand out are the upper shelves. Man, do we all love to throw items up there! The interesting thing about those shelves is that they can collect so much dust and dirt. Be firm in how you’ll get your closets cleaned. It’s easy to get lost, so to speak, while cleaning in those spaces.

Remove Random Items

Are there things in your closet that really don’t belong there? Toys, boxes, and other odd items can be removed first, and placed in their proper areas. I’m notorious for grabbing an item to look at in our bedroom, then shoveling it into our closet because I’m too lazy to take it back to where it’s supposed to be. This is the time of year where I curse myself for doing so. It ends up being yet another thing to collect dust, and another thing I need to clean.

Use The Right Cleaning Products

While you may not see it right away, wiping your hand on the shelves or the top of the closet door will show you the exact amount of dust that has made a home in your closet. We love using to give the shelves, corners and tops of doors a good cleaning. We even use them on the floors of our non-carpeted closets. Related: don’t forget your closet floors. That’s another sneaky place for dust and dirt.

These simple steps don’t have to stop with the closet. There are simple and streamlined ways to spring clean everything in your home, and not spend a ridiculous amount of tine doing so. The breaks down spring cleaning into manageable steps.
