THE CHEAT DAYS THAT INSPIRED THE 10,000 CALORIE CHALLENGE
YouTube is buzzing with a viral trend that makes you want to slip into something with an elasticated waist just thinking about it. The 10,000 calorie challenge is the latest video that sees YouTubers attempt to impress their followers by forcing down four times their calorie RDA in one sitting.
Who started it? Well, it wasMHall-star the Rock who kicked it off with his fabled cheat days. While we don't have footage of the man himself, one YouTuber has recreated it in impressive style. But Dwayne Johnson isn't the only man we've interviewed with a blockbuster appetite. Read on as we reveal the diets of Mountain men who consume this crazy amount calories on a daily basis.
This is what our former cover star eats… every day. Every. Day.
6:50am Branched-chain amino acids (BCCA), glutamine supplements and a handful of almonds.
7:30am8 eggs, 200g oats, blueberries, strawberries and avocado
9:30am 400g beef, 400g sweet potatoes, handful of spinach and greens
11:50am BCCA and glutamine supplements
12:00pm 400g chicken, 400g potatoes, greens and fruit
14:00pm (Blender), 150g oats or sweet potatoes, 2 bananas, 150g Rice Krispies, frozen berries, handful of almonds, peanut butter and glutamine
14:30pmBCCA, glutamine and carbohydrate supplements
17:30pm 60g protein and 2 bananas
18:00pm 500g beef, potatoes and greens
20:30pm 500g salmon and 500g sweet potatoes
22:30pm 50g casein protein or 6 eggs, avocado, 30g almonds and 50g peanut butter
Thought that was it? Think again. Hafþór then goes on to say that he drinks plenty of juices (as well as water) to get in even more calories. And just to finish the day off, the Icelandic strongman then gets up in the middle of the night to eat another 50g of casein or raw eggs.
"I get up at 7am and have a protein shake, two scoops mass gainer, a litre of full fat milk, 9am is usually 400g of porridge with 6 pieces of fruit, or 8 eggs with toast and fruit and yoghurt. Breakfast can be quite a lengthly process.
"11am I have a snack, 50g cashew nuts, beef jerky, more fruit. 1pm it’s always steak, chicken, pastas, rice. 400g of meat and 500g of carbs with greens. I try and have something quite calorific after lunch, a small cheesecake to get the fat in for training. It’s nice to have a pudding, the beauty of being a strongman is it’s all for calorific intake, you have to be taking them in for your body to become bigger and stronger. And obviously it adds a bit of variety to your diet.
"After dinner, 3pm I have something high in carbs, like another bowl of porridge, or a flapjack, apples, bananas. It’s just to carb up for the training session. Water with Protein Dynamix carb powder. They're the main company I use. At the gym I have 2 litres of cranberry juice for the carbs, it’s full of fructose, I have this with carb powder. Halfway through I’ll have a litre of Guernsey milk with a litre of mass gainer. Then halfway through my session I eat a packet of sliced beef. Straight after a litre of coconut water for the elctrolytes.
"Dinner is the same as lunch, steaks, chicken, pastas, spag bol, curry. Then another good pudding, cheesecake or ice cream. Before bed it’s a cold-pressed greens drink with beans and spinach, a good half a litre, then I take a protein bar to bed to snack on through the night.
"Its 10000 calories or more. It’s a chore to eat this much, definitely, but at the end of the day it’s my job. 90% of my job is eating food and drink.
